It was 2 days ago, mom and I were going to my cousin's store a few blocks from my house, when I heard little meowings. I turned around to see where those little sounds came from and then I found it. In the mud not so far from a little bush was a newborn kitten, abanoned and crying, it was starting to rain. The mother was not around.
We heard from a neighbor, that a little girl grabbed the kitten from its place (far away) to take it home and her granny didn't want it in her house so the girl put it near the street in the mud.
It was very hard to convince my mom to help the little creature. She said yes, so I ran the way back home to grab a little box and paper, the only thing at hand, I got there to grab the newborn kitten and set it into the box, so we went to my cousin's store hoping the veterinary near the park to be open, I wasn't that lucky, and the kitten's lucky seemed to be over too when my mom told me to get rid of the kitten. I just couldn't. I felt like shit and useless and pissed because there wasn't anyone to help me or a place I could turn to.
Our lucky changed when my cousin offered to help, my little niece was so happy about it, she showed me a little basket and put the kitten there with the box open to keep it warm, we saw the kitten closer to find that it was a 'she', a light honey color, and her little meowings were increasing, sign that she was hungry.
Things turned funny 'cuz my cousin named me "Animal Protector and Greenpeace", I didn't mind and laughed a bit. We went for kitten's formula to feed her and she took her home. I was very happy and a bit worried. I wanted the little kitten to survive. Two days passed and she's going well. The image when I found her is still in my mind. My hope for her is to be better to grow up healthy.
In Merida Yucatan there's no place to help animals or a shelter for them, they are alone and defenseless. Over 500 street dogs per month are sacrificed. Not many people care for them enough to adopt them. They are just coldhearted. And I still feel like shit and useless.
My goal in life is to help animals by becoming a biologist - what else could be so rewarding? It is knowing stories like yours that make my heart harden with the certainty that helping those who are helpless - the poor animals so many carelessly cast aside - is my purpose in life.
I hope your kitten does well. I raised a kitten we found, too. He was laying next to his dead mother in the street - she'd been hit by a car. There was another kitten with him, but he was already dead. Today that kitten is a strong, healthy, beautiful cat named Friday. If you need any help knowing how to take care of the kitten - if you still have it - then just note me right away.
You are an angel for standing up and taking care of that baby kitten. My heart goes out to you.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

Why be enemies when you can flourish new friends?!!
Life is simple!!! But it is up to you how you live it!!!
Maybe you make a petition to open an animal shelter where you are!
I'm sure that would help all those poor animals without homes find one!
